Nissan UCI World Cup 4X #5 Elite Men, Women Report, Full Results, Photos – Beerten and de Lara Luca Win

Canada's Lambert 14th
by Fraser Britton

August 2, 2008 (Bromont, QC) - The 4X course at Bromont is the largest the World Cup has ever seen. It featured massive jumps, rocks gardens, huge berms and even a 270 degree corkscrew. Rain fell throughout the event, but the track held up extremely well, except for a few spots that started to turn into moto rut filled messes. Phil Saxena, Bromont 4X course builder, seems to have finally cracked the code. Racing was fast and furious with each heat featuring multiple passes in all areas of the minute long course.

Anneke Beerten (NED, MS Intense) took home the win for the women, and maintains control of her leader's jersey. She was joined in the finals by Anita Molcik (AUT, Yeti), teammate Mio Suemesa (JPN) and Caroline Buchanan (AUS). Beerten took control right from the gate and fended off multiple passing attempts to take home the win.

The men's final saw World Champion Raphael Alvarez de Lara Luca (ESP, Specialized) make a miraculous comeback and somehow take the win. De Lara Luca went from last to first making a few fantastic passes, beating out Cedric Gracia (FRA, Commencal Oakley), Guido Tschugg (GER, Sang Young) and Johannes Fischbach (GER, Ghost). Gracia himself was in last place for part of the run, and made creative line choices that resulted in two passes to slide into second place.

Canadian Hans Lambert qualified mid pack, but was knocked out in semi final action to end up 14th for the day.
