Absalon Wins - Kabush 4th

August 3, 2008 (Bromont, Que.) - A light rain continues in Bromont as the Elite Men's XC World Cup race with 67 riders on the start line will begin shortly. Leading the charge for Canada is Geoff Kabush (Maxxis) who placed 2nd at MSA and hopes to improve on that result. The men will complete 6 laps of the 4.6km course - preview.

Lap 1
At the start it's Todd Wells (USA) GT Bicycles jumping to the lead with Kabush in 2nd, Cédric Ravanel (Fra) Team Lapierre International in 3rd, and Julien Absalon (Fra) Orbea in 4th - the rain has let up and the sun is poking through.

Lap 2
As the riders come through to start lap 2 it's Lukas Flückiger (Sui) Athleticum MTB Team in the lead with Absalon in 2nd and José Antonio Hermida Ramos (Esp) Multivan/Merida in 3rd. Top Canadian is Seamus McGrath (Fuji) in 7th.

Lap 3
Absalon has taken over the lead and has 1:05 on Hermida and Flückiger in 2nd and 3rd. McGrath has moved up to 6th.

Lap 4
Absalon continues to lead with a 1:05 gap on Flückiger in 2nd followed by Hermida in 3rd at 1:46 with Adam Craig (USA) Giant Mountain Bike Team in 4th at 2:06 and Kabush is in 7th - we haven't seen McGrath yet and may have missed him coming through - Mathieu Toulouse (Can) Team Maxxis is in 24th. Raphael Gagne (Can) Rocky Mountain in 39th has crashed apparently he had a flat tire and was riding with Francis Morin (Can) Specialized.

Lap 5
Starting the 5th lap with one more to go after this it's Absalon with a 1:38 lead over Flückiger in 2nd with Craig now in 3rd at 2:53, Hermida in 4th at 3:50 and Kabush is now in 5th at 3:53 - and McGrath is in 13th at 6:52. Matthew Hadley (Can) Xprezo is 19th and Toulouse is 25th.

Lap 6 Final
Absalon has a 2:12 lead on the final lap over Flückiger in 2nd and Craig in 3rd at 3:55 with Kabush now in 4th at 4:33. The men are finishing in a light rain which came back.
