March 6, 2010 (Toronto, ON) - The Ontario Cycling Association held its Annual General Meeting at the Toronto International Bicycle Show on March 6 and reported a banner year breaking $1 million in revenues, only the second time the association has done so. The association showed a surplus of $77,569 and overall membership saw a 4-5% increase with better than average turnout at most events.
"The OCA has also improved its presence across the country with officials and coaches working on national and international events," said OCA President, Duncan Vipond, "And Ontario individuals and organizations were further recognized receiving Canadian Cycling Association awards."
In addition last season proved to be one of the most successful years for Ontario at National Championships. The High Performance report by Glenn Meeiwisse and Brendan Arnold indicated that Ontario had 182 top 10 finishes in 2009 vs 160 in 2008, and 110 in 2007. Ontario also won the most medals at the 2009 MTB Nats. With news of the 2015 Pan Am Games coming to Toronton and region the future looks bright for Ontario's racing scene.
The OCA also voted to amend its by laws so that the past-President's position on the Board of Directors is for one year only (previously 10 years) and non-voting - a new Member at Large will replace that voting position on the Board.
The winner of the Club Challenge Award was also presented to Cycle Solutions/Angry Johnny's who have won the award three consecutive years.
